Japan Visa Checklist for Indian Applicants (September 2026)

Japan's visa process for Indians is entirely paper-based through VFS Global — no online application — and every Indian passport holder needs a visa before traveling. Here's what to prepare.

Reflects our research as of September 2026. Requirements and processing times shift with demand (especially cherry blossom season) — message us before you apply.

    Standard Processing

5–7 working days via VFS Japan; up to 10 working days during peak season (March–April, cherry blossom).

    First-Time Applicants

In-person biometrics required at a VFS center as of March 2026 — no courier submission for first-timers.

    Document Checklist

Original passport — minimum 6 months validity, at least 2 blank pages
Visa application form, filled online, printed and signed
One recent color photograph (45mm × 45mm, white background)
    Detailed day-by-day itinerary
Financial proof — bank statements and ITR
Employment details — the same salaried/self-employed document split as other visas
    Confirmed flight and hotel bookings

    Apply Early

Apply at least 3–4 weeks before your planned travel date — longer if you're traveling during cherry blossom season, when processing regularly stretches toward the 10-working-day mark.
